Best time to visit Paris

Paris is best in Spring & Autumn, but each season has its own character. Here's what to expect, what to pack, and what shines — then build a day around it.

Paris splits cleanly into a comfortable half of the year and a punishing one. The gap between them is wide enough that the same itinerary is a pleasure in one and barely doable in the other.

On weather alone, spring and autumn is the window — which is also when prices and crowds peak, so the shoulder weeks either side are usually the better trade, especially for the 8 spots below that reward an early start.

The other half of the question is the calendar: Nuit Blanche (One Saturday night in early June) and Roland-Garros (Late May to early June). Those weeks are the most alive Paris gets and the hardest to get a room in — worth planning towards or around, but not worth discovering after you have booked.

🌸 Spring

Recommended

Mar – May

Mild and bright, with everything open and the crowds still thin — one of the two best windows of the year.

Pack: layers you can shed by afternoon, and something rainproof.

Shines now: Sacré-Cœur & Montmartre

☀️ Summer

Jun – Aug

Warm to hot and the busiest, most expensive stretch of the year. Inland cities can get genuinely punishing in the afternoon.

Pack: light clothes, sun cover and a refillable water bottle.

Shines now: Sacré-Cœur & Montmartre

🍂 Autumn

Recommended

Sep – Nov

Mild, golden and quiet once the summer crowds leave — the other best window, and usually the better value one.

Shines now: Sacré-Cœur & Montmartre
