Help & FAQ
How this site works, where its information comes from, and — just as usefully — what it deliberately does not tell you.
How are the day-by-day itineraries built?
Each plan is generated from the places we hold for that city, and it is both time-of-day aware and season aware. It groups stops that sit near each other, puts each one in the part of the day it actually works — a sunrise viewpoint early, a market in the late afternoon — and fits food around them. Treat it as a sensible structure to adapt, not a schedule to keep to.
Why do some cities have far more detail than others?
Because the depth is real rather than generated. Every guide page starts from regional guidance that applies across the state. A city gains a “Local notes” block only once we have researched and sourced something genuinely specific to it — a permit, an enforced dress code, a named local scam. If a city has no such block yet, it means we have not verified anything worth adding, not that there is nothing to say.
Where do the travel advisories come from?
Advisories under a city’s News section are drafted from public news headlines by an AI model, labelled as AI-generated, and linked to their source. They pass automatic checks first: an advisory that contradicts the season, or contradicts another live advisory for the same city, is held back for a person to review rather than published. They are a prompt to check further, not a substitute for an official warning — always confirm anything time-sensitive with the relevant authority.
Are the ticket prices and entry fees up to date?
They are what we last found, not a promise. Fees change faster than anyone can re-check them, and a stale price is exactly the detail a traveller acts on. Treat a number as a guide and the official counter as the final word. The pages also say whether a place is ticketed, free, capped, permit-only or must be booked ahead, which changes far less often.
How current is the information?
Local notes are researched against named sources when written, and each ends by telling you to confirm locally — rules, permits and bans genuinely do change. Festival timings are given as windows rather than dates, because most follow lunar calendars and shift by weeks from year to year. Advisories carry their own date and expire on their own.
Do I need an account?
No. Browsing, itineraries, guides and advisories are open to everyone with no sign-in. An account exists only so you can save places and keep trips across devices.
Where do the photographs come from?
From Wikimedia Commons, under Creative Commons licences. Every photograph is attributed on the credits page.
Something here is wrong or out of date. What should I do?
Trust the place itself over us: opening hours, dress codes and permit rules are set locally and change without notice. If you find something wrong we would genuinely rather know — a correction is more useful to us than a compliment.
