About Neermahal

Neermahal is a royal water palace in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake at Melaghar, about 55 km from Agartala. It was built in the 1930s by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya as a summer retreat. Its white-and-red walls, domes and pavilions mix Hindu and Mughal styles, and it is the best-known water palace in Northeast India.

You reach the palace by boat from the lakeshore, and the crossing is part of the fun. Rudrasagar Lake is a protected wetland, recognised as a Ramsar site, and in winter it attracts migratory birds. Many visitors combine Neermahal with the Tripura Sundari Temple at Udaipur on the same day.
