Where to Eat in Auli

Auli has a handful of restaurants, most attached to hotels and resorts. For more choice, and for meals late in the evening, go down to Joshimath.

Not sure what to order? The Auli food guide starts from the dishes — what each one is, when to eat it, and which of these kitchens is known for it.

On the slopes

The GMVN Auli Restaurant, run by the state tourism corporation at its ski resort, is the steady option. It serves North Indian food and some Garhwali dishes, with views over the slopes. It is busiest at lunch in the ski season, so eat a little early or late.

Other hotels and resorts along the slope have their own restaurants, and most take outside guests. Listings here include the Apple Garden Restaurant and the Snow View Café. Menus and hours change with the season, so check before you walk over, especially outside winter and May–June.

Homestays

A homestay is often the best meal in Auli. Hosts will usually cook dal, rice, seasonal greens and, if you ask, dishes such as kafuli or phaanu. Order in the morning for dinner.

Tea stalls

Along the slope, small stalls sell tea, instant noodles, omelettes and pakoras when there are visitors. They are useful between ski runs or before a walk, but not for a full meal. Many close when there is no snow and no crowd.

Joshimath

Joshimath's main market has many more places to eat: thali restaurants, dhabas serving travellers on the Badrinath road, bakeries and sweet shops. The listed Marwari Bhoj is a vegetarian place in Joshimath. It is a good stop on the drive up, and the place to stock up on snacks, fruit and water before heading to Auli.

Tips

  • Eat dinner by about 8 pm; kitchens close early in the cold.
  • Carry cash, as signal for card and UPI payments can drop in bad weather.
  • In peak ski weeks and in May–June, book meals with your hotel if you are eating late.
  • Take snacks and water for the walk to Gurson Bugyal and Chattrakund, where there are no shops.

3 places are listed here, across 2 areas. Each entry says what that kitchen is known for rather than reprinting its menu, so pick by the dish you want and the area you'll be in.

Are there good vegetarian restaurants in Auli?

Yes — 2 of the places listed are pure vegetarian, and the food-type badge on every card tells you before you set out.

What should I order in Auli?

Are restaurants in Auli open all year?
