Local tips

Book on the official MP Forest Department portal, and be wary of look-alike booking sites.

Carry the same ID you used to book, as it is checked at the gate.

Reach the gate on time, as late arrivals can lose their permit.

Book at least three drives across different zones for a better chance of a tiger.

Leave your phone in the locker, as phones are not allowed in the core zones.

Wear muted colours and keep your voice down when animals are near.

Remember that there are no afternoon safaris on Wednesdays.

About Bandhavgarh National Park

Bandhavgarh National Park, declared in 1968, is the heart of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh's Umaria district. The reserve covers about 1,537 sq km of sal forest, bamboo, meadows and rocky hills, and has one of the highest densities of tigers in India. The 2022 national tiger count recorded 135 tigers here, and the forest also holds leopards, sloth bears, gaur, chital, sambar and more than 240 bird species.

Visits are by jeep safari only, on fixed routes with a park guide. The core zones, Tala, Magadhi and Khitauli, are open from October to June, while the buffer zones stay open all year. Each permit covers one zone and one drive, and the number of jeeps per drive is limited, so book on the official MP Forest Department portal well in advance.
