About Tala Zone
Tala is the best-known safari zone in Bandhavgarh, a core zone that covers the area around the fort hill. Its routes run through sal forest, bamboo and open meadows with waterholes, under sandstone cliffs cut with ancient caves. It has a long record of tiger sightings and is the zone most visitors try to book first.
Safaris start from the Tala gate in Tala village, the main base for Bandhavgarh, about 32 km from Umaria railway station. Only a limited number of jeeps can enter on each drive, so permits often sell out months ahead in peak season. Besides the wildlife, the route takes in the caves and Shesh Shaiya, where jeeps usually stop.
