About Lalbagh Botanical Garden

Lalbagh was begun by Hyder Ali in 1760 and completed by his son Tipu Sultan. Today it covers about 240 acres in south Bengaluru, with old trees, a lake, flower beds and a huge collection of plants. Its centrepiece is the Glass House, built in 1889 and inspired by London's Crystal Palace.

The garden also has the Lalbagh Rock, one of the oldest rock formations on Earth, topped by a small watchtower built by the city's founder, Kempegowda. Twice a year, around Republic Day and Independence Day, the Glass House hosts Lalbagh's famous flower shows.
