About Bara Kaman

Bara Kaman is the unfinished tomb of Ali Adil Shah II, begun in the 1670s. It was planned to be larger than Gol Gumbaz, but work stopped when the sultan died, and only the platform and a set of tall arches were built. The name is often explained as "twelve arches".

Today it is an open, quiet site where the huge arches stand against the sky with no roof above them. There is no dome to see, but the scale of the arches and the empty platform give you a clear sense of how grand the tomb would have been. It is a short ride from Gol Gumbaz and the old city.
