About Ibrahim Rauza
Ibrahim Rauza is the tomb of Ibrahim Adil Shah II, completed in the 1620s, just outside Bijapur's old city walls. It is a pair of buildings, a tomb and a mosque, facing each other across a small water tank on a raised platform inside a walled garden. Its fine proportions and slender minarets are often said to have inspired the Taj Mahal.
The tomb is covered in delicate carving, with stone screens, inscriptions and detailed patterns on the walls and ceilings. Compared with the scale of Gol Gumbaz, Ibrahim Rauza is about detail and balance, and it is many visitors' favourite monument in the city. It is about 4 km from Gol Gumbaz by road.
