Best time to visit Coorg (Madikeri)

The best time to visit Coorg is from October to March, when the rain has cleared, the days are cool and dry and the views are at their best. October and November still have full waterfalls, while December to February brings crisp mornings, valley mist and the coffee harvest.

April and May are warmer but still mild, and good for a quieter trip. From June to September, Kodagu gets some of the heaviest rain in Karnataka, and landslides can close roads, so it is the season that needs the most care and flexible plans.

Best Month to Visit Coorg

October and November

The monsoon is ending, the hills are at their greenest and Abbey Falls still has plenty of water. Kaveri Sankramana at Talakaveri and Madikeri Dasara both fall around this time.

December to February

These are the coolest and driest months, with clear skies, mist in the valleys at sunrise and chilly evenings. It is also coffee harvest season and the busiest time of year in Coorg.

March to May

Days get warmer, but evenings stay pleasant. The first summer showers, usually around March, bring out the white coffee blossom for a few days. School holidays make April and May busy on weekends.

June to September

The monsoon is very heavy in Kodagu, especially in July and August. The landscape is lush and the waterfalls are powerful, but paths get slippery, leeches come out and views are often lost in cloud. Landslides in 2018 and 2019 badly damaged roads in the district, so check weather warnings and road updates before you travel, and avoid driving at night in heavy rain.

When Is Coorg Most Crowded?

Coorg is busiest from December to January, especially around Christmas and New Year, and on long weekends, when many visitors drive in from Bengaluru and Mysuru. Raja's Seat, Abbey Falls and Dubare can get very crowded at these times.

For a quieter trip, visit on weekdays, or in October–November or February–March, and reach the main sights early in the day.
