Go early in the morning to beat the tour groups.

Wear shoes with a good grip, as the steps are often wet.

Allow extra time for the climb back up the steps.

Carry a rain cover for your phone or camera, as the spray travels far.

Check whether access is open during heavy monsoon rain.

About Abbey Falls

Abbey Falls is a waterfall about 8 km from Madikeri, set inside private coffee and spice estates. From the car park, a paved path and a long flight of steps lead down past coffee bushes, pepper vines and tall shade trees to a viewing area in front of the falls.

The falls are at their fullest from about September to November, after the monsoon, when the water is loud and the spray reaches the viewing area. In the dry months the flow drops, but the walk through the plantation is still pleasant. During very heavy rain, access has been closed at times for safety, so check before you go.
