About Dhuandhar Falls

Dhuandhar Falls is at Bhedaghat, about 25 km west of Jabalpur and a short distance from the Marble Rocks. Here the Narmada narrows and plunges into a rocky gorge, and the force of the water throws up a cloud of fine spray that looks like smoke. That gives the falls their name: dhuan means smoke and dhar means flow. You hear the roar before you see the water.

Viewpoints along the bank let you watch the falls from close by, and a ropeway (cable car) crosses the gorge for a view from above. The falls are fullest just after the monsoon. In recent years the administration has closed the falls area, the ropeway and the boats from mid-June to mid-October while the river is high, so check before you go.
