Best time to visit Karaikudi
The best time to visit Karaikudi is from December to February, when the days are warm rather than hot and the northeast monsoon rains have mostly passed. This is the easiest season for walking the mansion streets and visiting the villages.
April to June is very hot, and October to November is the wettest part of the year. July to September is hot too, but with only occasional showers, as the southwest monsoon mostly misses this side of Tamil Nadu.

December to February
The most comfortable months. Days are warm and dry, evenings are pleasant and the light is good for photos. Early December can still see some rain, and Pongal in mid-January brings festive crowds.
March
It starts to warm up quickly, but mornings are still pleasant. A good choice if you want quieter villages and do not mind hot afternoons.
April to June
The hottest time of year, with May usually the peak. Sightseeing is best done early in the morning and late in the afternoon, with a long break in the middle of the day.
July to September
Still hot, with the odd evening shower. Fewer visitors come at this time. Pillaiyarpatti's Vinayaka Chaturthi festival usually falls in August or September.
October and November
The northeast monsoon brings most of the year's rain. Showers can be heavy and roads between villages may flood for a while. It is green and quiet, but keep your plans flexible.
When Is Karaikudi Most Crowded?
Karaikudi never gets as busy as the big temple towns, but it is busiest from December to February, over Christmas and New Year, and around Pongal in mid-January. Local festivals, such as the Koppudai Amman temple festival in April–May and Vinayaka Chaturthi at Pillaiyarpatti, fill the roads and temples for a few days.
The heritage stays in Chettinad have few rooms, so book early for the winter months.
