About Kasauli
Kasauli is a small hill town in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, at about 1,900 m on a ridge above the plains of Punjab and Haryana. The British set it up as a cantonment in the 19th century, and much of the town is still under Army and Air Force control. That is why it has stayed quiet and green: there are no big hotels on the Mall, few cars in the centre, and plenty of pine and oak forest right at the edge of town.
Most of Kasauli can be seen on foot in a day or two. Walk the Mall and Lower Mall for the old bakeries and shopfronts, visit Christ Church, take the Gilbert Trail in the morning and end the day at Sunset Point. Monkey Point, the highest spot, sits inside an Air Force station, so carry photo ID and expect to leave your phone at the gate. Leave time for Himachali food like siddu and chana madra, and a bakery bun with tea on the Mall.
Questions

What is Kasauli famous for?
Kasauli is known for its quiet colonial feel, Christ Church, the Mall, forest walks like the Gilbert Trail and views from Monkey Point and Sunset Point. It is also home to one of India's oldest breweries and the Khushwant Singh Literature Festival.
How many days are enough for Kasauli?
1–2 days is enough for the Mall, Christ Church, the Gilbert Trail, Sunset Point and Monkey Point. Kasauli is small and slow-paced, so many visitors come for a relaxed weekend.
How do I reach Kasauli?
Kasauli is about 60–65 km from Chandigarh, which has the nearest major airport and railway station. Kalka, about 40 km away, is the nearest railhead on the plains, and taxis and buses run up via Parwanoo and Dharampur.
Is Kasauli good for a weekend trip from Delhi or Chandigarh?
Yes. It is one of the closest hill towns to Chandigarh and a popular weekend break from Delhi. Expect heavier traffic on the highway on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
Can I drive around Kasauli town?
Only partly. Vehicle movement on the Upper and Lower Mall is restricted, and much of the town is cantonment land, so it is easiest to park and explore on foot.
