Best time to visit Khajjiar
The best time to visit Khajjiar is from March to June and from September to November, when the weather is mild and the meadow is good for walking and photos. Winter, from December to February, is cold and can bring snow.
The monsoon, from July to September, turns the meadow its greenest, but it also brings heavy rain and a risk of landslides on the mountain roads. The right time for you depends on whether you want pleasant weather, snow or fewer crowds.

March and April
The cold eases, the grass starts to turn green and the crowds are still light. Evenings are cool, so carry a warm layer.
May and June
This is peak season, as families escape the heat of the plains. The weather is at its most comfortable, but the meadow is busy from late morning, especially on weekends.
July to September
The monsoon makes the meadow and forest very green, with mist in the trees. Expect frequent rain, a wet and muddy meadow and possible landslides on the roads. By late September the rain usually eases.
October and November
The rain has gone, the air is clear and the views are often at their best. Days are pleasant but nights are cold, and the crowds are thinner than in summer.
December to February
These are the coldest months and the time when snow is most likely. Khajjiar can look very different under snow, but the road from Dalhousie can be slow or closed after a heavy fall, and fewer cafés and stalls stay open.
When Is Khajjiar Most Crowded?
Khajjiar is busiest in May and June, on long weekends and on winter holidays after a fresh snowfall. Most visitors arrive from Dalhousie by late morning and leave in the afternoon, so the meadow is quieter early and late in the day.
For a calmer visit, go in March–April or October–November, and reach the meadow early.
