Best time to visit Kochi
The best time to visit Kochi is from October to March, when the rain eases and the days are warm, sunny and good for walking around Fort Kochi. December to February is usually the driest and most comfortable stretch.
Kochi is hot and humid all year, so the real choice is between the dry season, the sticky heat of April and May, and the heavy rain of the south-west monsoon from about June to September. The right time for you depends on whether you want dry weather, festivals or quieter streets.

October and November
The south-west monsoon has moved on, and the city is green and fresh. Afternoon thunderstorms from the north-east monsoon are still common, but mornings are usually clear.
December to February
The driest and most comfortable months, and peak season. Days are warm and sunny, evenings are pleasant, and Fort Kochi is at its liveliest around Christmas, the Cochin Carnival and New Year.
March
The heat and humidity build, but the weather is still mostly dry. A good month for fewer crowds, if you plan sightseeing for the mornings and evenings.
April and May
The hottest months, with high humidity. Pre-monsoon showers can arrive in May. Sightseeing is best early in the morning and after about 4 pm.
June to September
The south-west monsoon usually arrives in early June, and June and July are often the wettest months. Heavy rain, flooded streets and rough seas are common, and boat services can be affected. Onam, Kerala's biggest festival, usually falls in August or September.
When Is Kochi Most Crowded?
Kochi is busiest from mid-December to early January, when Christmas, the Cochin Carnival and New Year fill Fort Kochi. In Biennale years, the art festival brings extra visitors from December onwards. Onam also draws crowds and makes travel across Kerala busier.
For a quieter trip, visit in October–November or in March, and see the main sights early in the day.
