December to February
The coolest and often the clearest months. Days are bright, nights are cold and early mornings can bring frost. A good time for long views from Coaker's Walk and Dolphin's Nose, except around Christmas and New Year, when the town fills up.
March to May
Warm days and cool evenings, with afternoon showers building through May. This is the peak season, with the summer festival and flower show usually held in May. Expect traffic on the ghat road and busy boats on the lake.
June to September
The south-west monsoon brings on-and-off rain and a lot of mist. The forests are green and the town is quieter, but views are often hidden and trails get slippery.
October and November
Usually the wettest months, as the north-east monsoon arrives. Heavy rain can cause landslides on the ghat roads, so check road and weather updates before you travel.
When Is Kodaikanal Most Crowded?
Kodaikanal is busiest in April and May, during school holidays, on long weekends and around Christmas and New Year. Rooms fill quickly and traffic on the road up and around the lake can be slow.
