About Beypore
Beypore is an old port town about 10 km south of Kozhikode, where the Chaliyar river meets the Arabian Sea. It has been famous for centuries for building the uru, a large wooden sailing ship. Local craftsmen, known as Khalasis, still build these boats by hand in open yards by the river, and a finished uru can take many months to complete.
Beypore also has a long stone breakwater, called the Pulimuttu, that runs out into the sea at the river mouth. It is a popular place for evening walks and sunset views, with fishing boats heading in and out. In recent years Beypore has also hosted the Beypore Water Fest, usually in December.
