About Mananchira Square

Mananchira Square is a green park in the centre of Kozhikode, built around a large freshwater tank. The tank is said to have been dug in the 14th century by the Zamorin ruler Mana Vikrama as a bathing pool for the royal palace. The park around it opened in the 1990s, with lawns, trees, walking paths and a musical fountain.

The square is surrounded by some of the city's older buildings, including the Town Hall from 1891 and the public library. SM Street, the famous halwa street, starts just to the north, so it is easy to combine a slow walk in the park with shopping and snacks.
