Best time to visit Mangalore

The best time to visit Mangalore is from October to February, when the rain has passed, the sea is calm and the days are warm but comfortable. This is also the season for Dasara, Yakshagana shows and Kambala buffalo races.

March to May is hot and very humid. The monsoon, from June to September, brings some of the heaviest rain in India, rough seas and closed beaches, so it suits travellers who want green landscapes more than beach time.

Best Month to Visit Mangalore

October and November

The monsoon eases, the hills are still green and the air is clearer. Mangaluru Dasara usually falls in September or October, with lights at Kudroli and Pilivesha tiger dancers on the streets. Some rain is still possible early in October.

December to February

The driest and most comfortable months, and the peak time to visit. The sea is calm, sunsets at Panambur are clear, and the Kambala buffalo race season and the Yakshagana touring season are both under way.

March to May

Temperatures rise and humidity is high. Mornings and evenings are fine for sightseeing, but middays are sticky. Pre-monsoon showers can start in May.

June to September

The monsoon usually arrives in early June, and July is the wettest month. Rain can be heavy for days at a time, the sea is rough and entry into the water is stopped at the city's beaches. The countryside is very green, and it is a quiet, cheaper time for temples and food.

When Is Mangalore Most Crowded?

Mangalore is busiest during Dasara, when Kudroli and Mangaladevi draw huge crowds, and in December and January around Christmas and New Year. Panambur Beach is crowded every weekend evening.

For a quieter trip, visit on weekdays in November or February, and see the temples early in the morning.
