Best Month to Visit Munnar

September and October

The rain eases, the hills are at their greenest and waterfalls are still full. Some showers can continue, especially in October. A good time for photos and quieter sightseeing.

November to January

Clear, cool days and cold mornings and nights. December and January are the coldest months and the busiest around Christmas and New Year. Pack a warm jacket for early starts.

February and March

Dry, sunny weather and fewer crowds. Eravikulam National Park usually closes during these two months for the Nilgiri tahr calving season, so check the dates before you plan around it.

April and May

Warmer days but still pleasant nights, which makes Munnar a popular escape from the heat of the plains. Expect more visitors during school holidays. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in May.

June to August

The southwest monsoon brings the heaviest rain of the year, thick mist and very green hills. Viewpoints are often hidden by cloud, leeches appear on grassy paths and landslides can block roads. Check weather warnings before you travel.

When Is Munnar Most Crowded?

Munnar is busiest during Christmas and New Year, the April–May school holidays, long weekends and around Onam (usually August or September). Eravikulam gets long queues at these times, and the road towards Mattupetty and Top Station can be slow with traffic.

For a quieter trip, visit on weekdays in September–November or late January, and start sightseeing early.
