About Anamudi

Anamudi is the highest peak in South India, at about 2,695 m, and the highest point in India south of the Himalayas. It rises above the grasslands of Eravikulam National Park, just north of Munnar. The name is usually translated as "elephant's forehead", after the rounded shape of the summit.

The peak lies in the core zone of the park, and visitors are not allowed to climb it. Instead, you see it from the Rajamalai tourism zone of Eravikulam, where the road and walking path look across the grassland to Anamudi's slopes. On a clear morning it makes a big backdrop for photos, and with luck you may see Nilgiri tahr grazing in front of it.
