About Eravikulam National Park
Eravikulam National Park protects the high grassland and shola forest just north of Munnar. It is best known as the home of the Nilgiri tahr, a wild mountain goat found only in the Western Ghats. In the Rajamalai tourism zone, the tahr are used to people and often graze close to the path, which makes it one of the easiest places in India to see them.
Private vehicles are not allowed inside. You buy a ticket, board the park bus at the entry point and walk the short paved path at the top, with views over the grassland towards Anamudi. The park usually closes in February and March for the tahr calving season. Once every 12 years or so, the slopes turn blue with neelakurinji flowers; the last mass bloom was in 2018.
