About Mattupetty Dam

Mattupetty Dam is a hydroelectric dam about 13 km from Munnar, on the road towards Top Station. The reservoir behind it is long and calm, with tea-covered hills and forest running down to the water. It is one of the most popular stops near Munnar and an easy half-day trip from town.

Boating on the lake is run by the Kerala Hydel Tourism Centre, with pedal boats and speed boats on offer. The same road continues to Echo Point and Kundala Lake, so most visitors see all three together on the way to Top Station. Wild elephants are sometimes seen near the water in the early morning or evening.
