About Top Station
Top Station is a viewpoint about 32 km from Munnar, on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. At around 1,700 m, it looks straight down the edge of the Western Ghats into the valleys of Theni district. In colonial times, a ropeway carried tea from here down to the plains, which is how the place got its name.
The drive is part of the trip: the road passes Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point and Kundala Lake, winding through tea estates and forest. At Top Station, a path with steps leads down to the viewpoint. On a clear morning you can see far across the valley, and on many days you can watch clouds rise from below. By late morning, mist often covers the view completely.
