About Triveni Sangam

The Triveni Sangam is the meeting point of three rivers, the Hiran, the Kapila and the Saraswati, where they flow into the Arabian Sea about 1.5 km east of Somnath Temple. Hindus regard it as a place of moksha, or liberation. Pilgrims bathe at the ghat and make offerings for their ancestors, and the ghat is also used for cremations.

Tradition says Krishna came this way after he was struck by the hunter's arrow at Bhalka Tirth, and left the world at Dehotsarg on the bank of the Hiran nearby. The story is told in the temples around the sangam, including the Gita Mandir, the Lakshminarayan Temple, Balram's cave and the old Surya Mandir, so allow an hour or two to explore on foot.
