About Thanjavur Art Gallery

The Thanjavur Art Gallery sits inside the palace complex, in a hall built by the Nayak rulers. It holds one of the best collections of Chola bronzes in India, along with stone sculptures gathered from temples across the Thanjavur region.

The bronzes, made using the lost-wax method, show Shiva as Nataraja, Parvati, the Chola saints and many other figures, with fine detail in their faces, jewellery and hands. It is one of the most rewarding stops in Thanjavur and a cool indoor break during the hottest part of the day.
