December to February: the comfortable months

Days are warm and nights are cool, and Tirumala, at about 980 metres, can feel chilly at dawn. This is the best time for walking up the footpath and for sightseeing at Chandragiri Fort. December also brings Dhanurmasam, when the morning prayers at Tirumala change, and Vaikunta Ekadasi, which falls in December or January and draws the biggest single-day crowd of the year.

March to June: the hot months

It gets very hot from late March, and May is the hottest month. Start the footpath climb before dawn, and keep sightseeing to early morning and evening. Summer school holidays in May and June are one of the busiest periods on the hill, so book darshan well ahead.

June to September: some rain, not the main rain

The southwest monsoon brings some showers but not the heavy rain that the west coast gets. It is warm and humid. Brahmotsavam usually falls in September or October. In 2026 there are two: the annual one ran from 15 to 23 September, and the Navaratri Brahmotsavam runs from 12 to 20 October.

October to December: the wettest months

Tirupati gets most of its rain from the northeast monsoon, and November is usually the wettest month. Cyclones off the Andhra coast can bring several days of heavy rain, and ghat roads and footpaths can be disrupted. This is also when the Kapila Theertham waterfall is at its fullest. Keep plans flexible and check the forecast.

Crowds through the week

Weekends, public holidays and festival days are always busier than weekdays. If you have a choice, go up midweek. The free queue is shortest on ordinary weekdays outside holidays, but no day is quiet.
