Best Month to Visit Udupi

October and November

The rain clears, the countryside is still green and the sea calms down. Boats to St Mary's Islands usually restart around mid-September, and Laksha Deepotsava fills Car Street with lamps in November.

December to February

This is the peak season, with dry, sunny days and the most comfortable evenings. It is the best time for beaches and the island trip. In Paryaya years, January is the busiest month of all.

March to May

It gets hotter and more humid each week. Mornings and evenings are fine for the temple and the beaches, but middays are sticky. Boats to St Mary's Islands usually stop around mid-May.

June to September

The monsoon brings very heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas. Swimming and boat trips are banned, and water sports stop. It is a quiet time for the temple and the green countryside, but not for the coast. Janmashtami usually falls in August or September.

When Is Udupi Most Crowded?

Udupi is busiest from December to January, during school holidays and long weekends, and at big temple events. The Paryaya handover every second January, most recently in January 2026, and Janmashtami bring the largest crowds, and rooms fill up far in advance.

For a quieter trip, visit in October, November or February, and go to the temple early in the day.
