About Kaup Beach
Kaup (also spelt Kapu) is a quiet beach about 13 km south of Udupi. Its best-known sight is the white lighthouse, built in 1901, which stands on a cluster of black rocks at the edge of the sand. The rocks, the lighthouse and the long curve of the beach make it one of the most photographed places on the Udupi coast.
The lighthouse is usually open to visitors for a short time in the late afternoon, and the climb gives wide views along the coast. Most people come for the sunset, when the sky turns orange behind the rocks. The sea here can be rough, so this is a beach for walking and watching rather than swimming.
