About Malpe Beach
Malpe Beach is about 6 km west of the centre of Udupi and is the town's main beach. It has a long stretch of golden sand, a busy fishing harbour at one end and a paved promenade where families gather in the evening. The jetty for boats to St Mary's Islands is here too.
Malpe has water sports and a floating walkway over the sea, though both usually run only in the dry season. From mid-May to mid-September, when the monsoon makes the sea rough, swimming, water sports and boat trips are stopped, and nets and red flags mark the no-entry zone. The rest of the year, it is the easiest place in Udupi for an evening by the sea.
