Best time to visit Yercaud

The best time to visit Yercaud is from December to June. December to February is cool and dry with clear views, while March to June is warm but much cooler than the plains around Salem, which makes Yercaud a popular summer escape.

Rain usually builds from July and is heaviest from August to November, as Yercaud gets rain from both the southwest and northeast monsoons. It is the greenest time of year and the best time for Kiliyur Falls, but mist, slippery paths and occasional trouble on the ghat road make it less reliable for sightseeing.

Best Month to Visit Yercaud

December to February

The coolest and driest months, with sunny days, chilly nights and the clearest views from Pagoda Point and Lady's Seat. A good time for sightseeing and sunrise trips.

March to May

Days are warm, usually in the high 20s °C, while the plains below are much hotter. This is peak season, especially in May, when school holidays and the Summer Festival bring the most visitors. Pre-monsoon showers often begin in May.

June to September

Rain increases through these months, with mist, green hills and a fuller Kiliyur Falls. Showers often come in spells, so you can still sightsee between them, but paths get slippery.

October and November

The northeast monsoon adds more rain, and October is often the wettest month of the year. Kiliyur Falls runs strongly, but cloud can hide the viewpoints and heavy rain can sometimes affect the ghat road, so check the forecast before you travel.

When Is Yercaud Most Crowded?

Yercaud is busiest in April and May, especially during the Summer Festival week in May, and on weekends and long weekends through the year, when visitors drive up from Salem, Bengaluru and Chennai. The lake and viewpoints are busiest from late morning to evening.

For a quieter trip, visit on weekdays between December and March, and reach the viewpoints early in the day.
