About the Shevaroyan Temple
The Shevaroyan Temple stands on Servarayan peak, the highest point in the Shevaroy Hills, about 7 km from Yercaud town. From outside it looks like a plain building, but inside is a narrow, dark cave shrine dedicated to Lord Shevaroyan and the goddess Kaveri, who are believed to protect the hills and the Kaveri river.
The temple is sacred to the Malayali tribal communities of the surrounding villages, who gather here in their thousands for an annual festival, usually in May. On other days it is quiet, and the hilltop gives wide views over Yercaud and the ranges around it. The Sri Raja Rajeswari Temple is on the same road, so the two are easy to visit together.
