Best time to visit Bangkok

Bangkok is best in Winter, but each season has its own character. Here's what to expect, what to pack, and what shines — then build a day around it.

Bangkok splits cleanly into a comfortable half of the year and a punishing one. The gap between them is wide enough that the same itinerary is a pleasure in one and barely doable in the other.

On weather alone, winter is the window — which is also when prices and crowds peak, so the shoulder weeks either side are usually the better trade, especially for the 8 spots below that reward an early start.

❄️ Winter

Recommended

Nov – Feb

The cool, dry season and the best time to come — sunny, less humid days in the low 30s °C and warm nights. The rain has usually stopped by mid-November.

Pack: light, breathable clothes, a hat and sunscreen — a thin layer only for air-conditioned malls and trains.

Shines now: Wat Saket & the Golden Mount

☀️ Summer

Mar – May

The hot season — mid-30s °C and very humid, with April the hardest month and the first thunderstorms arriving in May. Sightsee early and late, and rest through the afternoon.

Pack: loose light cottons, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and plenty of water.

Shines now: Wat Saket & the Golden Mount

🌧️ Monsoon

Jun – Oct

The rainy season — a heavy downpour most afternoons or evenings, usually over within an hour or two, and mornings are often dry. September and October are the wettest months, when low-lying streets can flood.

Pack: an umbrella or light rain shell, quick-dry clothes and sandals that cope with puddles.

Shines now: Lumphini Park
