Best time to visit Belur

The best time to visit Belur is from October to February, when days are warm and dry and mornings are cool enough to walk the temple courtyard barefoot in comfort. Belur sits at almost 1,000 m, so it stays milder than much of Karnataka.

March to May is warm to hot by midday, and the monsoon from June to September brings frequent rain. The temple is open all year, so the right time depends on whether you want comfortable weather, green countryside or fewer people.

Best Month to Visit Belur

October and November

The rain eases, the countryside is still green and Yagachi Dam is full. A good time for photos and sightseeing, with fewer visitors than in the winter holidays.

December to February

The most comfortable months, with clear skies, sunny days and cool mornings. This is also the busiest season, especially around Christmas, New Year and long weekends.

March to May

Days get hot around midday, and the stone courtyard heats up under bare feet. Visit the temple early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The Rathotsava, the temple's chariot festival, usually falls in March or April.

June to September

The monsoon brings regular rain and cooler days, with July usually the wettest month. The hills turn green, but the courtyard can be slippery and grey skies dull the carvings.

When Is Belur Most Crowded?

Belur is busiest on weekends, school holidays and from December to January, when tour buses from Bengaluru and Mysuru arrive by late morning. The Rathotsava in March or April draws very large crowds of pilgrims.

For a quieter visit, come on a weekday and reach the temple at opening time.
