Best time to visit Bhadrachalam

Bhadrachalam's calendar has two layers: the weather on the Godavari plain and the temple's great festivals. Decide first whether you want the festival crowds or a quiet darshan.

October to February: the easy months

Once the rains are over, days are warm and dry, and mornings at the ghats are cool and clear. This is the most comfortable time for darshan, the drive to Parnasala and a visit to Kinnerasani. The one big exception is Vaikuntha Ekadasi (December–January). The float festival on the Godavari and the dawn northern-gate darshan draw very large crowds for a few days.

March to June: heat, and Rama Navami

From March the heat builds fast, and May afternoons often pass 40 °C. Sri Rama Navami falls in March or April, and it is the town's biggest event. Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims come for the celestial wedding. Rooms fill weeks ahead and roads into town are jammed. The kalyanam ticket sectors are sold in advance. If you want to see it, plan early. If not, avoid the week around it.

July to September: monsoon and floods

The Godavari rises sharply in the monsoon. In heavy flood years, the ghats and low parts of town go under water, and the authorities issue flood warnings. Bathing is stopped when the river is high. Roads to Parnasala can be cut. The temple stays open on its hill, but check river levels before you travel in July and August.

Godavari Pushkaralu 2027

Every 12 years the Godavari holds its Pushkaralu, a 12-day river festival of holy bathing. The next is expected in 2027, reportedly from late July to early August. Bhadrachalam's ghats will be one of the main venues in Telangana. Dates vary between sources, so confirm them nearer the time. It also falls in flood season.

The best balance

November, February and early March, away from festival weeks, give good weather and shorter queues. Weekdays are calmer than weekends all year.
