Best time to visit Bharatpur
The best time to visit Bharatpur is from October to March, when the weather is cool and dry. For birds, aim for November to February, when migratory ducks, geese, pelicans and waders fill Keoladeo National Park.
April to June is very hot, often above 40 °C, and most migratory birds have left. The monsoon from July to September is quieter but refills the wetland and starts the nesting season for resident birds. The right time for you depends on whether you want migrants, nesting colonies or simply mild weather.

Plan a monsoon day →Best Month to Visit Bharatpur
October
The rains have ended, the park is full of water and green, and resident birds are busy with nests. The first migrants start to arrive towards the end of the month. Days are still warm.
November to February
This is the peak season. Migratory birds from Central Asia and beyond spend the winter here, and the weather is cool and pleasant by day. Mornings in December and January can be very cold and foggy, which sometimes delays trains and roads, so keep your plans flexible.
March
The weather warms up and many migrants begin to leave, but there is still plenty to see. Holi and the Braj festivities make it a lively month in the region.
April to June
These are the hottest months. The park is quiet, the water dries up in places and most migrants have gone. If you visit, go into the park at dawn and rest in the afternoon.
July to September
The monsoon brings showers, humidity and green scenery. Resident birds such as painted storks begin nesting from around August if the rains are good. How much water the park gets depends on the rains and on water released into it, so conditions vary from year to year.
When Is Bharatpur Most Crowded?
Bharatpur is busiest from December to February, especially over Christmas, New Year and weekends, when visitors come from Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Rooms near the park fill early, and the best guides are booked in advance.
For a quieter visit, come in November or early March, and enter the park on a weekday morning.
