About Deeg Palace
Deeg Palace is the summer palace of the Jat rulers of Bharatpur, in the town of Deeg about 35 km north of Bharatpur. Built mainly in the 18th century, it is a group of pavilions called bhawans, such as Gopal Bhawan, set around formal gardens and two large water tanks.
The palace is known for its fountains, which were designed to recreate the feel of the monsoon, with water pouring off roofs to sound like rain. Today they are switched on only on a few special days, often around Holi. On other days the palace is quiet, and the reflections of the pavilions in the tanks make it one of the best places for photos in the region.
