Best time to visit Bhuj
The best time to visit Bhuj is from November to February, when days are warm and sunny, nights are cool and the White Rann has dried into a firm white crust. This is also the season of the Rann Utsav, the festival and tent city at Dhordo.
From April to June Bhuj is very hot, with afternoons often close to 40 °C, and in the monsoon the Rann fills with water and loses its white colour. The right time for you depends on whether you want the salt desert, the festival or simply a quieter town.

November to February
The best season. Days are usually in the high 20s to low 30s °C, nights are cool and it hardly ever rains. The Rann is white, the Rann Utsav is on, and full-moon nights on the salt are the highlight of the year. December and January nights can be cold, especially out on the Rann.
March
Days are getting hot, often around 35 °C, but mornings and evenings are still comfortable. The Rann Utsav tent city has recently stayed open into early March, and the crowds thin out.
April to June
The hottest months, with afternoons often close to 40 °C. Sightsee early in the morning and in the evening, and rest indoors in the afternoon. The salt desert is hot, hazy and far less pleasant to visit.
July to September
The monsoon brings light, patchy rain, mostly in July and August, and humid heat. The Rann fills with water and mud, so this is not the time for the White Rann, but the town and the palaces are quiet.
October
The rain has gone, but days are still hot, often in the mid-30s °C, and the Rann is usually still drying out. Navratri and Diwali often fall around this time and bring festivals and busy weeks.
When Is Bhuj Most Crowded?
Bhuj is busiest during the Rann Utsav, especially on full-moon weekends, over Christmas and New Year, and during the Diwali holidays. Rooms in Bhuj and at Dhordo fill up early at these times, and the road to the Rann is busy in the evening.
For a quieter trip, go on weekdays in November, early December or February, avoid the full-moon dates, and see the palaces early in the day.
Questions
Bhuj — FAQ
What is the best month to visit Bhuj?
November to February is the best time, with warm days, cool nights and the White Rann at its whitest. December and January are the coolest months.
Can I visit the White Rann in the monsoon?
It is not a good idea. In the monsoon the Rann fills with water and turns to mud, and the salt does not look white again until it dries out, usually by around November. Plan your visit for November to February instead.
How hot is Bhuj in summer?
Very hot. From April to June afternoons are often close to 40 °C and can go higher, with strong sun and dry air. If you travel then, sightsee early in the morning and in the evening, and drink plenty of water.
Is December a good time to visit Bhuj?
Yes, December is one of the best months. Days are pleasant, the Rann Utsav is on and the salt is white. Nights are cold on the Rann, so pack a warm jacket, and book early if you are travelling over Christmas and New Year.
