About the Rock Garden
The Rock Garden is one of India's most unusual sights. It was created by Nek Chand, a government road inspector who began building it in secret from broken tiles, bangles, pottery, electrical fittings and other waste. When it was discovered, the city chose to protect it, and it opened to the public in 1976.
Today, it covers about 40 acres near Sukhna Lake. You walk through narrow lanes and low archways into a series of courtyards filled with thousands of figures, as well as waterfalls, pools and giant swings. It is one of Chandigarh's busiest attractions, especially at weekends.
