About Chandigarh
Chandigarh was planned from scratch in the 1950s as the new capital of Punjab, and the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier shaped much of its layout and its main buildings. The city is laid out as a grid of numbered sectors, each with its own shops, schools and green spaces, and it is now the shared capital of Punjab and Haryana. Its Capitol Complex is part of a UNESCO World Heritage listing of Le Corbusier's work.
Chandigarh is easy to get around and greener than most Indian cities. Spend a morning on the Capitol Complex tour and the Open Hand, an afternoon in Nek Chand's Rock Garden, and the evening walking along Sukhna Lake. In February and March, the Zakir Hussain Rose Garden is in full bloom. Leave room for Punjabi food, from chole bhature at breakfast to butter chicken and sarson da saag in the evening.

How many days are enough for Chandigarh?

How do I reach Chandigarh?
Chandigarh has an international airport and a railway station with regular trains from Delhi. By road, it is about 250 km from Delhi on a busy highway, with frequent buses and taxis.
Is Chandigarh a good base for Shimla and Kasauli?
Yes. Chandigarh is the usual gateway to the Himachal hills. Kasauli is about 60 km away and Shimla about 115 km, so many travellers spend a day or two in Chandigarh before heading up into the mountains.
