About Rani Padmini Palace
Rani Padmini Palace is a white, three-storey palace beside a pool in the southern part of Chittorgarh Fort, with a small pavilion standing in the water. It is named after Rani Padmini, the queen of Rawal Ratan Singh, and is one of the most visited places in the fort.
The palace is tied to the story of Padmini and the siege of Chittor by Alauddin Khilji in 1303. According to legend, Khilji was allowed to see Padmini's reflection in a mirror here. The siege is recorded history, but much of the Padmini story comes from later poetry, especially the Padmavat of 1540, and historians still debate how much of it is true. For many Rajputs, Padmini remains a symbol of honour, so treat the site with respect.
