About Rana Kumbha Palace
Rana Kumbha Palace is the oldest palace in Chittorgarh Fort, rebuilt by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century on the site of an earlier palace. Today it is a large ruin of courtyards, stone canopies, balconies and stairways near the entrance to the fort.
The palace is linked with some of the best-known stories of Mewar. Maharana Udai Singh, who later founded Udaipur, is said to have been born here, and his nurse Panna Dhai is remembered for saving his life. Meera Bai is also said to have lived here, and tradition holds that underground chambers in the palace were used for jauhar during a siege. The evening light-and-sound show about the fort's history is held here.
