About Sim's Park

Sim's Park is a botanical garden in Upper Coonoor, laid out in 1874 on a wooded slope at about 1,780 m. It covers about 12 hectares and has more than 1,000 plant species, including tall old trees such as rudraksha, magnolia, pine and tree ferns. Paths wind down through terraced flower beds, lawns and a rose garden to a small lake at the bottom.

The park is quieter and more natural than the big gardens in Ooty, and it is a good place for an easy walk among the trees. Every year, usually in late May, it hosts the Coonoor fruit show, run by the state Horticulture Department, when the park fills with displays made from fruit.
