Best time to visit Dharamshala
The best time to visit Dharamshala is from March to June and from late September to November. These months usually bring dry weather, comfortable days and the clearest views of the Dhauladhar range, and they are the best months for the Triund trek.
The monsoon from July to mid-September is very wet. Dharamshala is one of the rainiest places in north India, so trails get slippery and clouds often hide the mountains. Winter, from December to February, is cold but clear, with snow on the peaks and fewer visitors.

March and April
The weather warms up and rhododendrons flower on the hills. Nights are still cool. It is a good time for sightseeing in McLeod Ganj and for the Triund trek once the trail is clear of snow.
May and June
This is peak season, as visitors come up from the hot plains. Days are pleasant and the Triund trail is at its busiest. Book early and expect crowds on Temple Road.
July to mid-September
The monsoon brings heavy, frequent rain, mist and green hills. Trails get slippery and roads can be blocked by landslides. Check weather and road updates before you travel, and keep your plans flexible.
Late September to November
The rain clears and the air is crisp and clean. This is often the best time for clear mountain views and photography. Evenings get cold by November, so pack warm layers.
December to February
These are the coldest months. The Dhauladhar peaks are covered in snow, and McLeod Ganj sometimes gets snow too. Triund can be snowy and icy, so only trek with proper gear and local advice. The town is quiet apart from the Christmas and New Year holidays.
When Is Dharamshala Most Crowded?
Dharamshala is busiest in May and June, on long weekends and around Christmas and New Year. The town also fills up when the Dalai Lama gives public teachings, as people come from around the world.
For a quieter trip, visit in March–April or October–November, and start sightseeing early in the day.
