Best time to visit Goa

The best time to visit Goa is from November to February, when the weather is dry and sunny, the sea is calm and the beach shacks are open. This is also peak season, so prices and crowds are highest, especially around Christmas and New Year.

The monsoon usually arrives in early June and lasts until the end of September. Goa turns green and the waterfalls fill up, but swimming in the sea is not allowed and many beach businesses close. The right time for you depends on whether you want beach days, festivals or quiet, rainy scenery.

Best Month to Visit Goa

October

The rains ease, the countryside is still green and the beach shacks begin to open. It is a good month for Dudhsagar Falls, as the jeep safari usually reopens during October while the falls are still full.

November to February

This is the best weather of the year: sunny days, low humidity and calm seas. It is ideal for beaches, forts and Old Goa, but also the busiest and most expensive time, especially from mid-December to early January.

March

It gets warmer, but the sea is still calm and the crowds thin out. Carnival usually falls in February or March, and Shigmo in March.

April and May

Hot and humid, with strong afternoon sun. Beaches are quieter, and early mornings and evenings are the best time to be outside. Beach shacks begin closing towards the end of May.

June to September

The monsoon brings heavy rain, rough seas and green landscapes. Swimming in the sea is not allowed, the Dudhsagar jeep safari is closed and many shacks shut. It is a quiet, low-cost time for a slow trip, not for a beach holiday.

When Is Goa Most Crowded?

Goa is busiest from mid-December to early January, around Christmas and New Year, when hotels fill up and roads to the northern beaches are slow. Long weekends, Diwali and the Carnival days are also busy.

For a quieter trip with good weather, visit in November, late January to February or March, and head to South Goa beaches such as Palolem.
