Best time to visit Hampi
The best time to visit Hampi is from October to February, when the weather is dry and the mornings are cool enough for climbing the hills and walking between ruins. From March the heat builds, and April and May are very hot, often above 40 °C by midday.
The monsoon, from June to September, brings rain, fewer visitors and green fields, but the river crossing to Virupapur Gaddi can be suspended when the Tungabhadra is high. Which season suits you depends on whether you want comfortable weather, green landscapes or fewer crowds.

October and November
The rains clear, the fields are still green and the weather becomes comfortable. It is a good time for photos, with fewer crowds than in December.
December and January
This is peak season, with sunny days, cool mornings and the most pleasant weather of the year. It is also the busiest time, especially around Christmas and New Year, so book your stay early.
February and March
The days get warmer, but mornings are still pleasant. Hampi Utsav has been held in these months in recent years, and the Virupaksha car festival usually falls around March or April.
April and May
These are the hottest months, and sightseeing in the middle of the day is hard going. If you visit, go out at sunrise and in the late afternoon, and rest indoors in between.
June to September
The monsoon brings on-and-off rain, humid days and green landscapes. Rocks and steps become slippery, and boat and coracle crossings can stop when the river rises, so keep your plans flexible.
When Is Hampi Most Crowded?
Hampi is busiest from December to January, during long weekends and around Christmas and New Year. It also fills up during Hampi Utsav, when rooms book out fast.
For a quieter trip, visit in October–November or February, and start sightseeing early in the day.
