October and November
The heat eases, the camps reopen and the crowds are lighter than in December. Days can still be warm in October, but evenings are pleasant, and Diwali often falls in this period.
December and January
This is peak season. Days are mild and sunny, but nights can get very cold, especially at the dunes. Hotels and camps fill up around Christmas and New Year, so book well ahead.
February and March
The weather is still comfortable, and the Desert Festival is usually held around the full moon in late January or February. By late March the days are getting hot again.
April to June
The hottest months, with strong sun, hot winds and occasional dust storms. Many desert camps close. If you come, sightsee at dawn and dusk and rest in the afternoon.
July to September
The monsoon brings a few short showers but little real rain, and it stays hot. It is the quietest time of year, and a good option only if you do not mind the heat.
When Is Jaisalmer Most Crowded?
Jaisalmer is busiest from December to January, especially around Christmas and New Year, and during the Desert Festival. Rooms and desert camps can sell out, and the fort lanes and Sam dunes get crowded at sunset.
For a quieter trip with good weather, visit in October–November or late February–March, and see the fort early in the morning.
