October to March: the comfortable months

Days are warm and dry, and evenings cool. December and January nights can be chilly. This is the best time for Dimna Lake and the Dalma hills, when the air is clear and mist sometimes hangs on the ridge at dawn. Winter weekends bring picnic crowds to Dimna, so go early.

Early March: Founder's Day

On 3 March the city marks Jamsetji Tata's birth anniversary. For a few evenings around the date, Jubilee Park and dozens of landmarks are lit up, and the city comes out to walk through them. It is the best single reason to time a trip. Expect heavy crowds, road diversions and changed entry routes into the park.

April to June: hot

Temperatures climb through April and May, and midday can be very hot. If you come now, plan outdoor visits for early morning and evening, and keep middays for indoor places.

July to September: monsoon

Regular rain and high humidity. The Dalma hills turn green and Dimna Lake fills, but trails in the sanctuary become muddy, and access may be restricted in the monsoon — check at the gate before going. Jubilee Park is fresh and green after rain.
