Best time to visit Jodhpur

The best time to visit Jodhpur is from October to March, when days are warm and sunny and nights are cool. This is when walking up to Mehrangarh and around the old city is comfortable, and when the city's big festivals take place.

From April to June, Jodhpur is very hot, with daytime temperatures often above 40 °C. The monsoon, from July to September, brings short showers and humid heat. You can still visit in these months, but plan sightseeing for early mornings and evenings.

Best Month to Visit Jodhpur

October and November

The heat eases and the skies are clear. October brings the Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF) and the Marwar Festival, both around the October full moon, and Diwali usually falls in October or November. Book rooms early if your dates overlap.

December to February

These are the coolest months and the peak of the tourist season. Days are pleasant for sightseeing, but nights and early mornings can be cold, sometimes near 10 °C or below. Expect more visitors at Mehrangarh, especially around Christmas and New Year.

March

Days warm up but are still comfortable in the first half of the month. Holi usually falls in March, and crowds start to thin out.

April to June

This is the hottest time of year, and May is usually the hottest month, often above 40 °C. Sightseeing is only comfortable at dawn and dusk. Hotels are quieter and cheaper, but the heat is a real health risk, so drink plenty of water and rest in the afternoon.

July to September

The monsoon brings on-and-off showers that cool the air a little and turn Mandore Gardens green. Rain rarely lasts all day, but it is humid and still hot. It is a quiet time to visit if you do not mind the heat.

When Is Jodhpur Most Crowded?

Jodhpur is busiest from October to February, and especially during RIFF week, the Marwar Festival, Diwali, Christmas and New Year. Rooms in the old city fill up early and Mehrangarh gets busy by mid-morning.

For a quieter trip, visit in early October before the festivals or in late February and March, and start your day at Mehrangarh as soon as it opens.
